Day 6
“Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding;
Oh, bring us a figgy pudding and a cup of good cheer”
But what is ‘figgy pudding’?
A lot of people believe that it is in fact similar to plum pudding (another name for the traditional xmas pudding), but in actual fact it is more like a cake, one website describes it as ‘similar to a carrot cake base blended with custard. Its main ingredients are; allspice, nutmeg, suet, dates or apple, milk, flour, brandy or cognac or rum and of course figs (preferably dried).
Does anyone else see the resemblance to traditional Xmas pud? Weirdly enough, you also have to steam it for 3-4 hours (apparently one of the main reasons it went out of fashion).
As figgy pudding is such a ‘traditional’ xmas desert (it appears in a Christmas carol, thats enough for me) I have made it my mission this advent to make a ‘successful’ figgy pudding.
