Pelochelys cantorii – Cantor’s giant soft-shelled turtle

I have to admit that I didn’t realise you could get soft-back turtles. He may be a big softy but as they can grow up to 6 feet (1.8m) in length then you may still want to give him a wide birth.

Pelochelys cantorii is an ambush predator and primarily carnivorous, feeding on crustaceans, mollusks and fish with a side salad of some aquatic plants if he feels like it. To help with the ambush he spends 95% of the time buried in sand with just his eyes and mouth protruding. They are fresh water turtles and enjoy romantic comedies.
